Aromatherapy
Aromatherapy is the practice of using essential oils to stimulate the senses in order to treat symptoms of illness or imbalance. Essential oils are the purest essence of the plant; this should not be confused with perfume or fragrance oils, which contain synthetic chemicals that do not provide therapeutic benefits.
During a massage treatment essential oils are applied to the body in order to have a psychological and or physical effect. When applied to the body, essential oils are absorbed through the skin and inhaled into the lungs where they enter into the bloodstream, producing specific effects depending on the oils used.
Example: Eucalyptus oil can be used to ease congestion or relax muscle tissue, clove oil can be used to decrease inflammation.
If not used safely or correctly some essential oils can have unwanted effects, such as skin reactions.
